At only 30 years old, Eva had already experienced tragic loss.
Two of her children died, and her husband left after expressing disappointment with her for not being able to give birth to sons.
Now a single mother of three girls, Eva explains how the experience made her feel guilty, believing she was to blame for the failure of her marriage. As a consequence, she had even decided to abort the child she was carrying.
Everything changed when Eva came in contact with Wise Choices For Life (WCFL).
Through training and counselling, Eva learnt that it is the man’s sperm that decides the sex of a child. This new understanding shifted how she saw her situation and gave her the confidence to make an informed decision.
‘I thank Wise Choices for Life for training and counselling me. I was able to make an informed decisions to save both the life of my baby and myself.'
The WCFL program has a particular focus on schools, where it works with students and educators to reduce teen pregnancies and enable young people to stay in school longer.
Beyond schools, WCFL also works in churches, prisons, and with men’s and women’s groups to promote reproductive health education for all.
Program Highlights
In 2024, WCFL’s work reached thousands of people across Uganda:
- 3,974 people were trained in reproductive health and life skills
- 14 schools prioritised WCFL trainings and integrated them into their general school timetable
- 16,726 people participated across all WCFL activities
Eva’s experience reflects the impact of accurate, accessible information.
Through WCFL’s work, individuals are supported to better understand reproductive health, challenge misconceptions, and make informed decisions about their lives and families.
