Charles helps in the unlikeliest of ways

It’s not every day you hear that a 16-year-old boy is making sanitary napkins for his 15-year-old sister, but Charles is doing just that after he participated in the WCFL program at his school. Through the ‘My Amazing Body’ curriculum, Charles learnt about puberty and identity and developed a greater understanding of a woman’s experience, “It has helped us to build healthy relationships; for instance, when a girl has her period, we don’t laugh at her, but assist her, and we’ve learnt how to affirm each other.’

Charles has seen many changes since participating in the WCFL program. He has been avoiding things that harm his body and has noticed changes in his social behaviour, allowing him to make some good friends. Still, most importantly, Charles reflects, “I’ve fully understood who I am, my purpose on earth and why I am at school.”

It’s not hard to see the powerful impact the WCFL curriculum has had on this inspiring student and its ripple effect on those around him. Charles is eager for his relatives to participate in the program, ‘It’s very important because it’s supporting children to make wise choices and decisions.’
