Our History
"I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples."
Mother Teresa
Wise Choices for Life began out of Marg Docking’s heart for the people of Uganda and the urgent need to address high fertility rates that were, and are still, keeping people trapped in poverty.
Marg Docking OAM and her husband John first visited Uganda in 2009 as interns with African Enterprise. They quickly noticed the lack of reproductive health training and, upon returning to Australia, knew that they could play a pivotal role in transforming lives for Ugandan families.
Marg worked tirelessly on a curriculum and training program to equip Ugandan community leaders to conduct training in schools, women’s and men’s groups and prisons. Out of this passion and work, Wise Choices for Life was founded in 2011 and has grown to support thousands of men, women and children in Uganda and neighbouring countries.
Since Marg’s passing in 2021, the Wise Choices for Life team, partnering with Anglican Overseas Aid in Australia and Uganda, has taken on the mission to continue Marg’s work to break cycles of poverty in Ugandan families. Marg has left a lasting legacy of transformational global change through education and community empowerment.
Marg's selfless dedication to the people of Uganda was recognised in 2021 when she was awarded the Medal of the Order (OAM) in the Australia Awards.
“As a team, we feel privileged to have touched the lives of people who were trapped in the poverty cycle” – Marg Docking, OAM.
