Reproductive Health and Life Skills training that will empower the community
Collaborating with our Training Partners, Wise Choices for Life designs and delivers professional training in Reproductive Health and Life Skills. These topics are often taken for granted in westernised countries where they are considered to be “basic, under-pinning knowledge and skills”. Under-served communities however, suffer from the impact of generations of social injustices and many have never been exposed to the content in our training courses.
Our training is grassroots level contextualised as appropriate and relevant to the local community’s needs and culture. In so doing, we can equip and empower large groups of people in under-served communities with skills and knowledge to break the inter-generational poverty cycle. Our training is a catalyst for individual freedom, instilling a desire to accept responsibility for making positive changes and to share that new-found knowledge with others.
Findings from several international studies prove that women successfully take the lead in helping their families adjust when any change is required. Changed families become changed communities. We are mindful that in certain cultures, women will need the active support of men to facilitate learning (new things) and change. Men are the major influencers especially of young boys. Training men (often the faith and cultural leaders) means the ones who are the cultural gatekeepers of community are more likely to understand and hence adopt new practises. As women are provided with a supportive, caring, safe relationship, they can be mobilised to facilitate transformational, sustainable change for the community. Therefore, Wise Choices for Life trains men and women.
Wise Choices for Life also trains local community leaders – men and women – to become Accredited Trainers via our Train the Trainer course. These train-the-trainer courses are delivered to suitable participants in smaller groups – online and with social distancing as pandemic restrictions allow. Our Trainers combine their traditional culture, faith and science to inspire transformational change in thinking and behaviour around parenting, pregnancy, family size, gender equity and respect for all people.
Our training benefits young people as we focus on Protection and Prevention. Youth as well as mature and older persons benefit from our focus on Reformation and Rehabilitation. Please read more about OUR TRAINING
